Platform Pedals    Pedals with toe clips

Shimano SPDPedal & Cleat.   These are generally used on mountain & touring shoes and sit recessed in the sole for easy walking.

Shimano Road Pedals- similar to Look style but not compatible with them

Look compatible pedal & cleat for road riding.  They may vary slightly by manufacturer or model but will look similar to the above.
