What you'll experience:
Day One: The first day of your tour consists of our “Classic Wine Country Bike Tour”. We plan to meet you at our Touring Center in Healdsburg at 9:45 a.m. and the tour leaves at 10:00 a.m. We casually ride through the Dry Creek Valley stopping occasionally to visit some of our favorite local wineries. Your guide may take you for a short walk among some 90 year old vines or stop to share a vista. If you're a wine lover you'll get a rare chance to handle the dirt, inspect the vines and taste the wines of the Dry Creek Valley.
By early afternoon we'll be ready for lunch and our Sonoma style picnic will be waiting! It is our belief that a great bike tour requires great food and since this is Sonoma County, you can expect locally grown, organic, fresh made and plenty of it!
After lunch we'll continue our bicycle tour to another winery or two, stop for some more scenic views and make our way back to our Touring Center by about 4 p.m. The route is mostly flat quiet country roads and is designed for riders of any ability. The total riding distance is less than 25 miles and we will be riding Trek hybrid style bikes. These bikes have a nice casual upright riding position, very comfortable seats and are surprisingly easy to pedal. Whether you're an avid cyclist or a beginner, there is no better way to experience the sight, sound, smell and taste of the Dry Creek Valley. Your dinner will be at a wonderful wine country restaurant right in town.
Day Two: Your second day’s tour will consist of a custom designed self guided tour. During the course of your first day’s tour we will take the opportunity to learn more about your interests and abilities. At the end of the guided tour we will finalize your self-guided route for the second day and provide you with maps, directions and suggested stops along with other necessary and interesting information. One favorite second day ride is in the Russian River Valley. You’ll go right into the hills where the grapes are grown. It’s an up close and personal experience with its slow and winding roads that lends itself to enjoying the beauty of the area. Westside Road wineries are part of the Russian River Valley Appellation with approximately 50 wineries, over 200 wine growers and 10,000 vineyard acres. You'll pass through Redwoods, ancient Oaks and flat plains filled with picturesque vines. You’ll have the opportunity to visit elaborate gardens or the unique Hop Kiln Winery with its landmark Hop Kilns. You’ll pass through the historic Sweetwater Springs district while enjoying views of Mount Saint Helena and Fitch Mountain. Although you will be on your own for the day you don't need to worry, should you ever need assistance our support van will be only a phone call away! You’ll spend another wonderful evening at your Inn.
Optional Day Three: This will be your second self-guided ride day. Another favorite ride of ours is to ride out into the beautiful Alexander Valley which can also be reached by riding from our Touring Center. Located at the north end of Sonoma County, the Alexander Valley is home to more than 40 wineries, each producing distinctive, unassuming wines made by distinctive, unassuming people. You’ll have the opportunity to check out Francis Ford Coppola’s latest winery or stroll through historic Geyserville and a stop at Meeker Winery housed in the old bank. You’ll want to make a stop for lunch or cold drinks at the historic Jimtown Store. We are happy to discuss adding additional mileage and we can also offer several other route suggestions.
Choose your lodging:
Your tour will be based in the wonderful town of Healsburg in northern Sonoma County. You can enjoy a stroll around the old Spanish style plaza, pop into cool shops, dine in a fabulous restaurant and spend the night in a great lodging that suites your style.
