5 Day Sonoma County Hybrid or Road Bike Adventure Tour Details
Day
One: Santa Rosa to Occidental (20 miles minimum + numerous
additional riding options). This ride takes you from downtown Santa Rosa
across the valley and into the Coastal Range town of Occidental. The
ride starts out on a bike trail along the Santa Rosa Creek for the first
5 miles and is all flat. You’ll make your way through old apple country
to the town of Graton and the rolling hills of Green Valley. Here you
can take break to explore the two blocks we call "downtown Graton" with
it's cute shops and galleries or take a short side trip to visit Iron
Horse Vineyards. Your day finishes with the challenge of a 600 foot
climb into the redwood forests and town of Occidental.
Day
Two: Occidental to Guerneville: (20 miles plus options). For
the more adventurous this will be your day to experience the Sonoma
Coast or for a more casual day you can head right to the redwoods. To
reach the coast you’ll start your morning with an easy roll down the
hill to Freestone for a stop at the incredible Wild Flour Bakery. Then
it’s out past the town of Bodega to the coast. As you head north to the
Russian River you experience the rugged Northern California coast with
waves crashing against the rocky shore. You might consider a walk on
Goat Rock Beach before you follow the river into the redwoods and the
town of Guerneville.
Day
Three: Guerneville to Healdsburg (approximately 20 miles plus
options). We recommend you start your day with a short side trip to the
Armstrong Woods Redwood Preserve (home to over 350 foot tall Redwoods!).
From there you’ll have the classic choice -- over the mountain or around
the mountain? If you choose "over" you'll experience the steep narrow
twisting Sweetwater Springs Road. It winds through the Redwoods and
swoops through the canyon. If you go around, you will continue along the
Russian River past Korbel "Champagne" Cellars and numerous wineries of
the lower Russian River appellation. Either way you will end up on the
incredible Westside Road rolling north past organic farms, vineyards and
wineries to the wonderful town of Healdsburg. Here you can enjoy a
stroll around the old Spanish style plaza, dine in a fabulous restaurant
and spend the night at a comfortable inn right in town.
Day
Four: Healdsburg Loop (multiple distance options). Spend the day
exploring the Dry Creek Valley and surrounding areas. You'll have
options from a
casual 25 mile winery tour to the challenge of climbing
to the Lake Sonoma Lookout. It's beautiful, it's pastoral and its
bicycle touring at its best. If you're a wine lover this is your chance
to experience the terroir of the Dry Creek and taste the wines of the
local boutique vintners. Whether it's the "Classic" 20 mile loop or an
extended ride, you'll see why many people think of Healdsburg as cycling
heaven. You’ll spend a second evening at your Healdsburg inn and we will
be happy to help you choose a great restaurant to round out your day.
Day Five: Take another one of Healdsburg's famous day rides to explore the Alexander Valley or just relax around town before we transfer you back to your starting point or a local car rental/shuttle stop for your departure.
